Jane Melin Violin Studio Private Violin Lessons in Poulsbo, Washington (Kitsap County)

Give your child or yourself the gift of a life-long love of music by learning to play the violin! I am looking forward to sharing the adventure with you.

Greetings! I teach violin lessons from my home near Poulsbo, easily accessible from the rest of Kitsap County via Highway 3.

I began my own classical violin studies at age 8 in Seattle and am an avid orchestral and chamber musician. I also enjoy playing bluegrass music on violin and mandolin, improvising with contemporary ensembles on my electric violin, and am learning to play folk harp. I am a violinist in the Bremerton Symphony and past member of the Seattle Philharmonic Orchestra, the Portage Bay Philharmonic, the Washington University Symphony, the Seattle Youth Symphony and award-winning Roosevelt High School Chamber Orchestra. I also direct an adult choir and make occasional presentations on the violin to elementary students. I love all kinds of music and try to communicate my enthusiasm for learning to my students!

I encourage my students to prepare to join local ensembles like the Bremerton Symphony Orchestra or Youth Orchestra for maximum application and enjoyment of the skills they attain in private lessons. Recommended accessories:

Shoulder Rests: Every beginning violin student should have a sturdy, comfortable, colorful shoulder rest that will grow with them! KUN Collapsible Mini Shoulder rests in blue, red, yellow and green (also black). Adjusts from 1/16 to 1/4 size violins. Larger sizes also available. Click to buy:

Egg shakers: A great tool for learning vibrato! Hold in the left hand while learning the waving-from-the-wrist motion to reinforce a steady rhythmic pulse. Buy 2 so the right and left hands can wave together; if student is right-handed this will help the left hand learn more quickly.
